2012 Schedule:

Registration for 2012 Volunteering will begin on Monday, November 19, 2012.  Please check back here on that date to register.

What to Wear:
Please dress appropriately. For your own safety please refrain from wearing open-toe or high-heeled shoes. Tennis / walking shoes or boots are best. The bicycles are new from the factory and very clean but some parts have a thin coating of oil to prevent rusting so you might want to wear clothing that you don't mind getting a little dirty.

Location: Bike Build, Gift Wrapping:

Please note that we have removed all the warehouse information (i.e. Location, etc.) from the website as we are trying to reduce the potential for people who are looking for bicycles to come to our location on the morning of the delivery.  Elves & More will send out the warehouse address to those who register   via email prior to the event.  Thank You.

Load-Up:
Bicycle load-up into delivery trucks will take place the morning of the delivery, starting at 8:00 a.m.

Delivery to Kids:
The delivery of bikes and gifts will occur on the morning of December 23rd, after all the trucks have been loaded. The load up begins at 8:00 a.m. and is expected to last approximately 1 hour.  Volunteers will then meet for a quick briefing at 9:00 a.m. and begin heading out to the neighborhoods at approximately 9:30 a.m.  Available parking in the neighborhood will be limited so we recommend using the transportation that will be provided for us by the City of Akron (trolly) and a school bus provided by First Student.

Description of Volunteers:
Bike Assembler
Assembles bicycles using a team-building approach or one at a time, depending on abilities and desires. Please bring your own tools as those provided by us might be limited.  Team-building groups may progress from one stage of assembly to the next such that within a couple of hours even a novice can assemble typical bicycles expertly.

Adequate numbers of skilled team leaders and quality control personnel will be involved to ensure that finished bicycles are safe to ride when delivered to children.

Suggested Tool List for Bikes:
10mm open end wrench
13mm open end wrench
14mm open end wrench
15mm open end wrench
6mm hex key
Scissors, Snips or Knife (To cut Zip-Ties)
Phillips Screwdriver

Suggested Tool List for Push-Abouts:
Pliers
Crescent Wrench
Flat-Head Screwdriver
Phillips Screwdriver
Hammer

Treasure Box Packers/Wrappers (Limited)
Packers and wrappers will gather gifts (all gifts will already be purchased) designated for each category of children (age and gender specific groupings), then box and wrap them with wrapping paper.

Where We'll Deliver Bikes:
We must keep the locations of the specific neighborhoods we will visit a closely guarded secret until the day we arrive. We do that in order to avoid having far more kids "waiting" in a neighborhood than we can serve. If secrecy is not maintained, the telephones would start ringing and kids would appear from other neighborhoods in such large numbers they could not be served.
